My Favorite Things- Toddler Books

I love Children’s Books and I have a large collection. I think it’s really important to keep books out for your child so that he/she can access them and look at them at his/her leisure. I hated seeing all of a child’s book collection up on a shelf when I was a Home visitor. Mom’s were reading the books but putting them up on the shelf afterwards to keep them from being ripped or ruined. I know my daughter will take the book after I have read it to her and look at it over & over again processing what we had just read. Below I have listed the books that my daughter is captivated by. The ones that she wants me to read again and again. I purchase many books at resale shops and yard sales. I can’t wait to read Madeline, Miss Spider’s tea party, If you give a mouse a cookie and spooky old tree to my daughter. Those are also my favorites. What books are your children hooked on?

Goodnight Gorilla by Peggy Rathman- Mostly pictures, Gorilla sneaks the keys from the zookeeper and follows him around the zoo and as he says goodnight to the animals, Gorilla opens their cages. They all follow him home and say Goodnight, Mrs. Zookeeper wakes up startled (My daughters favorite part) and she walks them all back to the zoo. Gorilla follows her back and snuggles into bed.

Sweet Dreams – My first Taggies Book Simple book with plush animals and trimmed in “ taggies” textured and smooth fabric pieces. Great for sensory issues- each tag has a different texture.

The Going To Bed Book by Sandra Boynton- I know this by heart- a must have in my book

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle- a classic

Touch & Feel books by DK publishing- I just love all these touch & feel books, great for sensory issues. My daughter loves the textures and animal fur.

Blue Hat, Green Hat - Moo, La, Ba and The Birth Day Monsters by Sandra Boynton

Once upon a Potty for Boys or Girls- by Alona Frankel- Just insert the words you use for the body parts and bodily functions. My daughter loves the part where Prudence waves goodbye to her pee-pee.

My Big Animal Book- by Priddy Books colorful pictures of real animals

From Head to Toe- Eric Carle

you know, one of the things I have been doing for several years is collecting children's books for when we have children in our home. One of the places that I usually will purchase from is Kohls Department Store --- they have three or four children's books each quarter on sale for $5 each --- good quality hardback books that you will remember (some from your own childhood). I think this quarter's books are Dr. Seuss books.

The best thing is that the proceeds from the book sales go to the "Kohl's Cares for Kids" charities.
