Lets get ready to rumble

In this corner we have Livi- Aka the powerful princess weighing in at 30 lbs. This reining champion of the toddler world is fast, smart and sneaky. Cute as a button she can charm her opponent with a sly little smile. This beauty is known to outwit and outrun her opponent against the ropes. Undefeated and undeniably cute.

And In this Corner we have Lauri Aka Mama, Mommy or Mom. Weighing in at 132 lbs and in need of fresh manicure and a good haircut. This Mom is relatively new to the parenting scene and is no match for the powerful toddler. She will attempt to outwit her challenger with her limited parenting skills and is known to bribe with suckers.

Who will win this Rumble? Will the princess or Mama take home the prize-fighting belt?

Seriously we have had a rough couple of days. I’m getting my butt kicked by a toddler. Is it just a phase or are we officially into the terrible twos?. I have been brought to tears and was ready to throw in the towel… by that I mean give up on trying to teach her and maintain control. Im tempted to let her run wild naked and smeared in peanut butter. Everything is a battle it seems and I don’t want to parent like a police officer, constantly shouting directives- Please don’t touch, Mama said No, Please stop, Please get down, get down, get down now. It’s not very effective. I need to revamp my routine, hit the parenting gym if you will and ultimately we both come out of the ring winners. I know the basic rules… be consistent, pick your battles, say what you mean and mean what you say, don’t get over their heads in babble, and let the punishment fit the crime. Sometimes that’s just very hard to carry out. I want to enjoy parenting ,not feel like Im training for the fight of my life.

I feel the same way with my six year old some days. I feel that we "rumble" a great deal. I am trying really hard to change my way of thinking and perhaps how I parent but try and maintain discipline. It is a task - but it is keeping me on my toes!!!

I still think it is age related a lot. Add in there that she has learned well at a very young age how to get what she wants as well as any spill over from her sensory stuff and she probably will win that fight. For now....

But keep at it. Those stand bys you said are effective-eventually.

This was such a hard stage for me. I wanted to come home and just be at harmony with my girl but there were times we would just battle. A lot would have to do with my general mood also. The worse my mood was the more we battled.

But happily it does get better. Three was worse than two for us attitude wise. We still battle sometimes and I am glad (deep-deep-down) she is strong willed so no one will be able to push her around but mostly that stage is gone. So there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It is just hard seeing it sometimes.

Hang in there.
