I love Halloween. I love walking in the fall leaves, the Caramel apples, carving pumpkins and toasting pumpkin seeds. I can recall every costume I ever wore; I fondly remember my first store bought costume. It was Scooby-doo. My Mom picked it out for me and I remember she came home and gave it to me. A store bought costume was a big deal as I typically wore some homemade creation of my grandmothers.
Pink footy Pjs were transformed into a pink bunny rabbit with a cotton ball on the butt and ears on a headband. I still felt like I was wearing my jammies. I really wanted to be a princess or witch… I never got to be either of those. This year we got to pick out what we wanted our daughter to wear for Halloween. I actually wanted her to be a yellow chick of some sort as her security item is a chick. Then I stumbled across a kitty costume and friends gave us a warm cow costume. So this year for our daughters first Halloween she was both a cat and a cow.

We went to a Halloween party at our community center and Livi really loved all the kids in their costumes. I’m trying to teach her to say “trick or treat” but so far no luck so I think tonight I will be saying trick or treat for our daughter. I will have to sort out her candy and make sure its safe. I will be on the look out for almond joy or Mallow cups. Those are my favorites.
A friend wrote about a great idea in her blog. It’s a great way to get rid of that extra candy. You tell your child about the Halloween Witch. The Halloween witch comes the night after Halloween and takes the candy and leaves a small present in its place. You first let your child pick out 10-15 pieces of candy to keep. Mom or Dad can take the extra candy to work or put it up and save it for treats. If the witch concept sounds to scary you could always make up a less scary sounding label. Perhaps the friendly Halloween pumpkin. Have a safe & Happy Halloween
