I ran across an ad for the Clorox Wipe It Out Program in a country music magazine. It featured one of my favorite singers, and adoption advocate, Rodney Atkins.
The Wipe It Out Program helps to raise money and awareness for various charities chosen by different country music stars. Rodney Atkins is working in conjunction with the National Council for Adoption (NCFA) to promote adoption awareness and give kids homes. The quote from Rodney Atkins in the ad says:
“Where will kids be tomorrow if they never find families of their own?”
With half a million children sitting in foster care, cases of child abuse reported daily, newborn children left in places that should never be associated with a new life and children in orphanages around the world, why not advocate for adoption?
Some of the other charities listed are important for our kids as well. Some of us are parenting mentally ill children, others with physical disabilities, food allergies and various other issues. Some of the other charities include:
• Special Olympics
• St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
• Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN)
• YouthAids
• Second Harvest Food Bank
• Imagination Library – Providing free books for kids age 5 and under
These are all things that could definitely benefit the kids we parent. Hopefully we will never have to deal with things like childhood cancer or AIDS in our families, but some of us will. Unfortunately, children are not immune to illness and disease and some of our kids already suffer from physical disabilities that limit the quality of their lives.
Next time you are in the store looking for cleaning supplies for your home (something I hate doing) think of Clorox and what they are doing for kids. It will be interesting to see the other charities that benefit from this association between Clorox and country music.
