The actress, Edie Falco, who is most closely associated with her role as Carmella Soprano on The Sopranos, recently adopted a daughter, Macy, according to unconfirmed reports posted at several online venues. This is the second child, and second adoption for Ms. Falco, aged 44. Macy joins big brother, Anderson, who is currently 3 year old. Anderson was adopted in 2005, and was named after the mother of the actress, whose maiden name was Anderson.

Falco joins other recent celebrity adoptive parents, including:

Julie Haddon (The Biggest Loser, Season 4)
Finola Hughes
Run (of Run DMC fame)
Lauren Holly

In other celebrity adoption news, it appears that Madonna has decided not to pursue the adoption of a little girl, Mercy, from Malawi. You may remember that Malawi is the native country of her youngest son, David. David’s adoption just became final, after approximately two years, and the singer-actress was informed that the process to adopt Mercy would take about as long. Citing her disenchantment with the bureaucratic nature of adoptions in Malawi (she as been quoted as stating she was “exhausted“ by the process) , she intends to “financially support” Mercy, but intends to pursue an adoption in India.

The singer-actress has stated, "I've been visited every six weeks by social workers who come into the house and make sure that you're being a good parent and that David's health is thriving. And [the social workers] ask you all kinds of invasive questions and you have to put up with it and endure it. "I've been fingerprinted about 20 times and undergone psychological evaluations and I think everybody who goes through adoptions has to do this. I'm not alone. But you know, I would do it again."

I won’t comment on that last statement, as I have mixed feelings about it, but suffice it to say that the wait is hard, and can be exasperating, and like traditional birth, the “pain” of waiting is often dissolved and forgotten the first time to behold your new child(ren).
