Mo from the Korean adoption blog posted yesterday about a Korean English doll. Interested, I followed the link. The doll is sold by Target and available on their website www.target.com. Not having a Korean born nor Korean speaking child myself, I checked around the site to see if they offered something similar in other languages. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they sure did. They offer a similar doll in many different languages; I was pleased with the variety that isn’t usually offered by other stores.
They have the following:
Young-Hee speaks Korean
Sophie speaks Italian (with soccer ball/outfit instead of purse)
Lizzie speaks Spanish (pictured with this blog)
Jolie speaks French
Emma speaks German
Alexa speaks Greek
Sarah speaks Hebrew
David speaks Hebrew (the only boy doll)
Anna speaks Russian
Yumi speaks Japanese
Lizzie speaks Spanish (yes, this is a second Lizzie. They both speak Spanish; I’m unsure about whether they speak the same phrases or not.)
Each doll is $34.99 and is listed as having these features:
• Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal
• Says over 25 words and phrases in English and their second language.
• Each doll comes with 3 AA batteries and removable and washable clothing and accessory.
• 16H x 8W x 18L"
• Imported
These are the features listed with the Yumi/Japanese doll. The other dolls’ listed features are similar if not identical. The dolls are soft fabric dolls as opposed to harder plastic dolls. ***Please note that I have not seen nor purchased one of these dolls yet, so I can not vouch for it personally. I just wanted to share something that might be of interest to other adoptive parents.
In searching the website for other interesting doll or toy options, there were a few listed but nothing in the variety/range of the dolls above. If you’ve come across any product like this or others, that speak to needs of different races and different languages, please share!!! My own research has yielded precious little. (I’m particularly interested in Russian and Ethiopian. But, if you care to share other languages/ethnicities, I'm sure we'd all appreciate it!)
