A Message From My Daughter

Today's post was dictated by my daughter and typed by me.

Hi. My name is (Ashley) and I'm gonna tell you what adoption is like for me. I had two other moms before I was adopted. Their names were (Jackie) and (Miss Kim). When I was born they took good care of me. My first mom was happy that I was born cuz she wanted a kid. She couldn't take care of me because she was really sick. So she decided I needed to get adopted. My other mom (Miss Kim) took care of me and my sister until we got adopted by my mom. This is me now!

When children get adopted it's fun, cuz you get a new family and you get to go new places that you've never been, like Georgia and Atlanta. Your mom is nice and you get to meet new people. You have new friends. Before you get adopted your mom says that this adoption will be good.

Some kids might be sad and scared about being adopted, because when you meet new people they are big and it might be kind of scarey. I say don't be scared because it's nothing to be scared about and you will probably have a good time with your new mom. Your brothers will be good. Your sisters will be happy. Your dad will be proud to have a new child in the house. Everybody will love you a lot and give you hugs and kisses!

Sometimes you might get in trouble and get a spanking, but it's okay, cuz your mom is doing it for a good reason. When I got a spanking once I learned I shouldn't disobey my parents and now I don't get any more spankings. I have not had a spanking in almost one year. My mom says I'm too old for spankings now.

I earn money by helping cleaning up and bringing in the trashcans. If I get in trouble I lose some of my money and my stuff. I feel happy because I have more money than I ever had before!

In the summer I go to camp and make friends and play ping pong and bumper pool, and we get to go on field trips.

When I get older I'll go to college and I'll visit my mom every day and she will be happy because she is going to miss me a lot. I'll find my other mom too and see what she looks like and I'll hope she'll be happy like me.

The end.

From her mouth and my fingertips...to God's ear.

OK, great idea, I'll ask Beth to do this too! Imitation is the purest form of flattery, right?

oh thanks so much Michelle. i thought it was sweet too. and honest! and this came from the little one who NEVER talks about being adopted. when i asked the three of them if they wanted to volunteer to write something about adoption i was NOT expecting "lil bit" (that's what we call her) to jump at the opportunity. but she was the only one who did. go figure. my kids, i swear. sometimes they keep me sooo confused!

thanks Mich. i have to admit i just keep reading it over and over. i really took a gamble asking if anyone wanted to volunteer their thoughts because i didn't want to filter anything that was said. i thought about not writing the spanking part as she dictated it, but it wasn't so bad. and it was the truth.

Nancy, are you going to post Beth's letter or are you just going to do it as a private exercise?
