Hi Everyone… My name is Lauri and I’m your new co-blogger here on the Adoptive Parenting Blog. I wanted to take a moment to tell you all a little bit about myself. I have been married for almost four years. We gave up the battle with Infertility and began our adoption journey in the summer of 2005.
My husband and I adopted our spirited, amazing, funny and energetic 21-month-old daughter from the Kemerovo region of Siberia. Before becoming a Mom I had a career in Social services- I worked with adults with MR/DD, I spent five years as a Home visitor with Help Me Grow, I facilitated a teen parenting group, created a preschool literacy program and before that I was a preschool teacher for fifteen years.
I admit that prior to becoming a Mom, I was one of those know-it-alls’s. I thought I knew everything about early childhood and therefore parenting for me would be a piece of cake. (Ha! was I ever wrong) After all I was trained in all aspects of Early Childhood Education. I was well read in every Early Childhood subject… but parenthood and especially Stay at Home Motherhood threw this self-proclaimed “ expert” for a loop.

Working with children is one thing, Parenting a child is a whole different ball game. I know that now. I’m humbled everyday. I’m now striving to understand my daughter ‘s issues and we are finding which parenting tools work for us. These past five months of officially being a “ Mom” have been the most exhausting, amazing and happiest months of my life. I have made mistakes but I learned from them. I m eager to share my adoption story with you, tell you all about our parenting highs & lows, and I hope to tell it with humor and grace.
