More wisdom gained from my children......here is the story from yesterday:
I'm not feeling great. Better than Sat or Sun (really sick then), but still not great at all.
On top of not feeling great, it seems that things just keep going wrong, one after another. The speed that these things are happening in seems to be far more than I'm able to handle well!
I'm getting discouraged.
It's just become a generally bad day.
I announce to Caroline, doing needlepoint nearby, that I am having a bad day.
I then ask her - as this is a child who has had her share of bad days, so maybe she has some insight - "When you realize you are having a bad day, do you find it better to just go to bed and hope for a better day tomorrow...or do you keep trudging thru and really try to make THIS day a better one?"
She has her glasses on and gives her best, most professor-like, "Let me think about this" look......and flatly offers her answer, which is:
"That really depends on what time it is."
It made me laugh.
And, then, it made me realize that she is right.
There are times when it's important that we try to fix things, to make them better, to do more or to do better.
And, there are other times where we've done what we can do. It's time to step back for a little while.
There are times where it might be good to do more or do better, but to realize that our personal limitations (time in life, time of day, physical, financial, emotional) just say "hold up a minute!"
And, it's important that we learn how to be honest enough with ourselves to find the difference.
And, more often than we like to admit, it might really just depend on what time it is on the clock when you're asking!
