I can’t believe it’s been almost a year now since coming home. I know I say that every month that goes by but it really does go by so fast. Our girl has grown up so much. She gained 10 lbs and grew six inches since coming home. She went from a little girl who was not so steady on her feet to a girl who climbs, runs and jumps with the greatest of ease. The transformation has been incredible. It’s amazing what love & a healthy environment can do. Her entire look has changed, she is no longer a pale baby and no longer even resembles a toddler and many people assume she is older than her age since she is so tall. The biggest change in the past month has been in her language acquisition. She is talking so much and so well for her age. This surprises me the most of all. The fact that she spent the first 16 months of her life hearing a different language seems to have had no impact of her language development. Our biggest issues are behavioral with attachment & sensory issues.

The Good

Her overall health & development. She has been very healthy. After treating her giardia and healing from hep A after first coming home she has not had an infection or been Ill. She is on target and doing just great. Her language has just taken off and she talks non-stop. She appears to be attached; it gets better & stronger as each month goes by. Some days I think we have some more progress to make but she has come so far.

The Bad

Night terrors.. man are these rough. Anxious attachment issues continue to crop up after a particular over stimulating event or when company is over. We struggle with sensory seeking behaviors and we are finally starting our Occupational therapy play group.

The Ugly

Lately it’s just the typical toddler tantrums that are the most frustrating. Her favorite words are No and Mine and she has endless energy.
